On 1 August 2025, I had the honor of leading a milestone celebration in Tokyo, Japan, marking the 20th anniversary of the Center for Sustainability & Excellence (CSE). This landmark event brought together an exceptional network of leaders from across Japan’s corporate landscape, including over 70 distinguished organizations such as Hitachi, Dome Corporation, and many other pioneering companies committed to sustainability.

The event was designed not only to celebrate our achievements but also to serve as a platform for dialogue and inspiration. Over the last two decades, CSE has grown from a boutique sustainability consultancy into a globally recognized authority, influencing corporate strategies and empowering professionals to lead ESG transformations. In my keynote address, I reflected on this journey and shared our vision for the future:

“We are especially proud that, in our 20 years of international presence, we’ve had a direct impact on organizations and companies representing over 15% of global GDP through our training and advisory services—including 330 leading companies from Japan. With our partner Sustainavision, we are also celebrating 12 years of success and high impact in Japan.”

The Tokyo event was an opportunity to spotlight some of our proudest achievements in Global Sustainability:

  • Training and certifying more than 10,000 professionals in Sustainability and ESG globally.

  • Engaging 530 Japanese professionals from 330 top companies in our programs.

  • Providing advisory services to organizations in over 90 countries.

  • Partnering with 250+ leading companies to embed ESG into the core of their business operations.

The audience was deeply engaged, with discussions ranging from Japan’s role in advancing ESG principles to the pressing global challenges that demand collaborative action. The presence of so many forward-thinking leaders highlighted the country’s growing influence in shaping sustainable business practices and climate action strategies.

This anniversary was more than a celebration—it was a reaffirmation of CSE’s mission to drive measurable impact through expertise, innovation, and collaboration. As we step into our third decade, our focus remains unwavering: to equip leaders across industries with the insights, frameworks, and tools they need to integrate sustainability at the highest level.

The Tokyo celebration served as both a reflection on the path we’ve traveled and a call to action for the future. It reinforced my belief that real transformation comes from long-term commitment and global partnerships, and it underscored the role Japan will continue to play in the global sustainability movement.
